Communities living near Chitwan National Park faced human-wildlife conflict and limited livelihood opportunities. In 2021, Green Foundation Nepal partnered with three villages to develop community-based eco-tourism. Local residents were trained as nature guides, homestay operators, and wildlife monitors. Traditional Tharu cultural performances became part of the tourist experience, preserving cultural heritage while generating income. A portion of tourism revenue funds conservation activities and conflict mitigation measures. The initiative has created employment for 60 people, reduced human-wildlife conflict by 40% through better waste management and buffer zone restoration, and increased community support for conservation. Annual tourism revenue now exceeds NPR 8 million.
